do you build a mental image of what zoners look like?

Just a bit of fun really so no insulting posts please.

Over the past few weeks a couple of people have asked what I look like, and when I've told them they've been surprised and said they had a different image.

so - what is your mental image of certain zoners? what do you think they look like? and then perhaps the zoners mentioned here would like to come back and confirm/deny.

Post 2 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 25-Aug-2010 8:25:00

Hmmm. I guess I don't really build images of Zoners, or most people, for that matter. Very occasionally, I try to build images of a person, but I usually can only do that after I've talked to them a bit. Then I try to build images based off of voice, and even personality sometimes. Those are not accurate judges of course. Since I've not talked to a lot of Zoners via voice, I usually don't build too much of an image of them. Maybe if I went on TeamTalk more, I'd start doing more of that. I'll be curious to see what other people post here.

Kind of hard to picture what anyone looks like when you're just reading written material spoken by your synthetic speech of choice. Maybe if I heard real voices it might give me a slightly better idea, but I'm honestly not all that concerned with what people look like in general. It's how you treat people that's more important to me.

I'm not going to say what I think specific people look like, but to answer one part of the question, I do try to imagine what some people look like. When I listen to a book or watch TV, I do the same thing. And I used to chat with more people on here, and sometimes we would describe ourselves. But I've had a habit for a long time of getting an image in my mind of someone. My images could be way off, but it really doesn't matter to me that much what they look like. It's personality and what's in their heart that matters.

I ask some people what they look like, because I had sight as a youngster, and so still like to try and build a picture even if it is limited. but I know sighted people who do this, build an image of someone they speak to on the phone, maybe through work, and are surprised how different the reality is if they ever meet.

Post 6 by SilverLightning (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 25-Aug-2010 14:26:27

I make a mental picture of nearly everyone. Sometimes its accurate, sometimes it isn't, but it helps me invision it I guess. Plus its more fun than just sitting there talking. I also try to imagine what kind of voice they may have if I'm just chatting on the computer. Weird maybe, but its what i do.

No, but I expect most of them are probably fat.

I build images sometimes. For instance, Alicia, I'm not sure why but in my mind you're about five seven, slender, with long dark hair. I have no idea why, it came to mind one day and stuck. lol. And Becky might have green eyes, and Cody might have dark hair and eyes. Sometimes I'll come to associate a random detail like that with a person and never imagine the rest and never know where it came from. I'm terribly inaccurate most of the time, which makes me wonder even more where in my mind these things come from.

Post 9 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 25-Aug-2010 21:22:35

Hi, Feathery. Nope, not accurate for me. *Grin* Well, partially. I'm 5:4, I do have dark-brown hair that comes to about the middle of my back. I'm not slender, but not majorly overweight either. Smile. and like Cody said, I too sometimes try to picture someone's voice, even if I'm just talking to them on the computer.

Post 10 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Thursday, 26-Aug-2010 4:30:32

oh yes, I do try to picture peoples' voices. Of course having an audio tag does help marginally, although often peoples' audio tags sound nothing like them.

I in fact recently changed my own audio tag because someone said my original one didn't sound like me - now it does.

Post 11 by SilverLightning (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 26-Aug-2010 5:04:30

your close feathery, I have blondish brown hair and what is called amber eyes. What amber is exactly, don't ask me, I didn't pick it. So, your not horribly off.

is easier for me to predict people voice, and their personality from their voice than the acture physical look. perhaps i'm not in to the physicality side of thing. but once i get the voice, i might start to put an image together, with the person personality, look, and perhaps size as well.

Post 13 by Elenhiia (Feather'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr for president!) on Thursday, 26-Aug-2010 15:48:54

I get very clear impressions of voice as well, which I'm far more accurate on than appearance, but I have trouble describing voices.

Post 14 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 26-Aug-2010 16:25:28

The only time I try to imagine what a person looks like is if we're planning on meeting, or if we're in a relationship.

Post 15 by AgateRain (Believe it or not, everything on me and about me is real!) on Thursday, 26-Aug-2010 19:05:21

I don't care, just don't be creepy when asking me, though.

Post 16 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Thursday, 26-Aug-2010 19:16:06

I haven't with people on here.
Well I guess I can't say totally: I'm guessing Margorp is a lean mean fightin' machine maybe six foot, one of them sinewy tough guys who gets way underrated for strength. Got a buddy of mine is / was an "old-school" skater, totally like that. At least when we were in college.
But I will say this, every time I tell my wife that someone on TV sounds like someone we know, I'm dead-ass wrong. Not partially off, not a quarter inch, *way* off. So yeah everyone builds a picture but I often wonder about the reality.

Post 17 by AgateRain (Believe it or not, everything on me and about me is real!) on Thursday, 26-Aug-2010 21:33:48

Well, Margorp to me is a black guy?

Post 18 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Friday, 27-Aug-2010 10:28:50

lol. I usually try and imagine what people look like by there voice. I had Sugar baby pegged at being tall like 5ft9 or so then she told me I was way off.

I think I figured out why I thought that as well and I'll tell you later Claire. grin

Post 19 by Perestroika (Her Swissness) on Friday, 27-Aug-2010 20:20:07

I like to know what people look like, but I'm not the sort of person who can build up a mental immage of someone at will, especially if the only way we've spoken is through text.
perhaps the fact that I still have sight is why I don't do it, I don['t know.

Post 20 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Friday, 27-Aug-2010 20:26:06

I'm more likely to do that sort of thing in person, not online. in saying that, though, there are certainly rare occasions where I try to visualize what someone looks like that I talk to online. most times, it's pretty accurate, and others not so much.

Post 21 by season (the invisible soul) on Friday, 27-Aug-2010 23:12:21

quite agree with post19, i more likely to build up their personality compare to how they look like. perhaps i do have some sight, so i don't seems to have that extra imagination, or the extra interest on how exactly they look like. as i said in earlier post, i believe onces i know their voice, i can quite easily build up their image from there.

Post 22 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Saturday, 28-Aug-2010 1:34:54

As I don't remember vision, and have very little idea of what it is, I don't really build a visual idea of anyone, on here or otherwise. I do ocasionally what some have been talking about, imagining a voice for certain people, if I've talked to them for a while, but it's more just a mental way of tagging them in my head if that makes any sense, and I'll instantly replace it once I've actually heard their voice.

Post 23 by maroon five (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Saturday, 28-Aug-2010 1:48:06

to answer the questian of if i build images of zoners, no, i don't. i don't come here enough these days to wonder what people look or sound like. as for people in general, the same applies. i used to build images of what this person or that person looks or sounds like, but not anymore. i do that mainly when watching tv or a movie though. i tend to go on personalities rather than voices or looks as a general rule anyway.

Post 24 by squidwardqtentacles (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 30-Aug-2010 14:15:56

Senior, sorry, but I'm not fat. I've been compared to actress Meryl Streep, if that helps to build an image in anyone's mind.

Funny margorp should be mentioned. Based on his username, I think of Stuart Margolin, a k a ex-con Angel of "The Rockford Files", but my image could be way off base.

Post 25 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Monday, 30-Aug-2010 17:24:40

what do people think I look like? I'm curious to see the kind of response I'll receive if any, as this sort of thing can get fun/interesting.

have anyone here like to put a name and a body image together? like michael = fat and grumpy and old for example... lol

Post 28 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Tuesday, 31-Aug-2010 11:53:54

yes, am curious too. what do people think I look like?

Post 29 by Voyager (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 31-Aug-2010 19:32:22

I don't know how, as I have never seen. Since I'd never thought about it, I would be interested in what others imagine about me.

And Margorp = program backwards.

Post 30 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Tuesday, 31-Aug-2010 21:49:25

I've never seen either, but that doesn't mean I can't/don't picture people.

Post 31 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Tuesday, 31-Aug-2010 22:22:26

Yeah Margorp is program backwards, but there's plenty of SWDev skater types. No I'm not one, fooled around a little bit with a skate when I was younger but never went that far into it, but for whatever reason Margorp comes off as a skater.

Claire or Clara always giving me the impression of gentle, lovely, beautiful, soft, and compassion.

ok. I just now recorded my zbp tag. and I'm curious to know how people are imagining me, now.

To Post 25:
I'll never get hair or eye color right, so I won't even guess, though I'd probably say a brunette around 5 5 or so.
My guess is you're a graduate student at a university, weighed down with the infamous task of teaching the Freshmen classes ... all the beginners that don't want to be there, but whatever it is you teach, you actually care about it, even though most of the freshmen don't.
That would be understandably frustrating. Don't know what the latest styles of clothes are for the academe types, so I'll only date myself by trying to describe that ...
Am I anywhere close?

Post 35 by CrystalSapphire (Uzuri uongo ndani) on Monday, 08-Nov-2010 9:45:40

Ok certain people I have pictured in my head. I used to have sight so I still remember. Voices I wonder what certain people sound like from time to time as well. In the end it's all about personality, and the person. Looks are nice, but not a must. :)
**note** my bf just happens to be hot, very hot **winks**
